This could, if done properly, create bad publicity for them. For a company that is basically an advertising company, ill will and bad publicity will hit them where it hurts the most, the bottom line. Last year there was a lot of publicity regarding privacy of information on the Facebook network. The exodus from twitter probably prodded Facebook to change its twitter privacy settings. While these settings are far from perfect, they are a lot better than before.
